Cancer/Grief Support

Memorial Prayer Garden

The Prayer Garden is located near the Ellendale portico at the northeast corner of the church building. It includes a columbarium with 45 niches and black granite engravable coverplates, a beautiful planted area for the burying of ashes, and an area of engraved bricks to honor or memorialize the special people of our lives. For more information, please contact the church office.

GriefShare

Sundays at 4 pm

“Going to GriefShare feels like having warm arms wrapped around you when you’re shivering.”

It may be hard for you to feel optimistic about the future right now. If you’ve lost a spouse, child, family member, or friend, you’ve probably found there are not many people who understand the deep hurt you feel. This can be a confusing time when you feel isolated and have many questions about things you’ve never faced before. Our weekly meetings help you move toward rebuilding your life, and include a video seminar with experts, support group discussion, and personal study and reflection.

Cancer Support

Faith in the Face of Cancer

Faith in the Face of Cancer provides educated, proven, and supervised consideration to participants as resources allow. Bartlett Hills Baptist Church will provide Christ-centered guidance, support, training materials, visitation, consolation, and prayer. There will be opportunities to share laughter, struggles, blessings, grief, suffering, and encouraging testimony by experienced cancer survivors and guest speakers. Individual needs will be met in the highest quality manner, by trained volunteers, in an accepting and tolerant manner. The group is targeted to relieve stress and provide friendship and assistance within the constraints of the program.

Ministry will be conducted to the highest ethical standards, and every effort will be made to enhance quality of life, develop and maintain a positive attitude and self-image, and help the cancer survivor and care-giver to understand the many personal, spiritual, physical, and mental challenges imposed by cancer.

When God and Cancer Meet

We recommend reading and using this excellent book by Lynn Eib, a best selling author, coordinator and facilitator for what may be the longest running cancer support group in the country–over 23 years.

When someone is diagnosed with cancer, his or her world turns upside down. What was reality grays out and becomes a surreal dreamscape that is very difficult to comprehend and even more difficult to manage. This confusion continues until they grasp the facts, understand their situation, and have a chance to compare with others the journey they have begun. Remember, unless you have experienced cancer, you can only sympathize, pray, listen, help where you can, and be there for the one whose life has just drastically changed. This book will help a lot. Judy and I have read it twice, and we have given away over thirty copies which were personally purchased by us. We also know the author who is herself a cancer survivor. This is a small investment for the good it will do. We suggest that you buy several and keep them available for that call in the night, or that social media post that brings a chill to your soul.
